Nicaraguan Authorities Authorize Selective Return of Religious Processions
Nicaragua · Latin America + Caribbean region
The Ortega regime authorized the processions of four patron saints in Nicaragua between late September and October 2026, ending a police-enforced ban that began in 2022. These religious processions, which include events in Masaya, Managua, Camoapa, and Matagalpa, are operating under selective permits. The authorized saints are San Jerónimo, San Miguel Arcángel, San Francisco de Asís, and the Virgin of La Merced.
