Peru and Ecuador Increase Security Cooperation Against Illegal Mining

Peru and Ecuador are coordinating their security forces to counter illegal mining and logging along their shared border. Defense ministers from both countries met in Arenillas, Ecuador, in May 2026 to strengthen this transnational cooperation and prevent criminal networks from shifting operations across the border.
